The Sony HT-S40R is a 5.1-channel home theatre system combining a 3-channel soundbar, two wireless rear speakers and a separate subwoofer. With 600 W total power output, the system is built to give movies, TV shows and music dedicated front, centre, rear and bass channels instead of relying only on the TV's built-in speakers.

Its 5.1-channel real surround sound places dedicated rear speakers behind the listening position, while Dolby Digital processes compatible surround content through the system's separate channels. The dedicated subwoofer adds a separate low-frequency channel, while Cinema, Music and Auto Sound modes let you adjust the presentation according to the content.

For everyday use, the HT-S40R offers Bluetooth 5.0, USB playback, HDMI ARC, optical and analogue audio inputs. The wireless rear-speaker setup reduces the need to run audio cables from the front of the room to the rear speakers, while the included amplifier box provides the connection for the rear channels.
